Born in Chicago, My family moved to San Diego when I was three and I've been here ever since. My father was a well-known calypso musician and I developed a love for all types of music. In high school, I was asked by the audio visual department if I would DJ at the school radio station they were planning to broadcast into the school cafeteria. I said yes and a career was born. Not only did I get compliments on my song selections, but the girls liked my voice as well!
After high
school, I DJ'ed a couple of fund raisers for my church but didn't pursue
it further. I also played keyboards and soon was playing in a variety of
garage bands,
some that played in some pretty seedy clubs. After
making $1 at my last gig, I retired to a life of full-time work in the
Graphic Arts industry.
One day,
my roommate at the time came into my room in a panic.
Seems that
the track club he belonged to failed to book a DJ for their
holiday party and
they
were in pretty hot water
since their party was
that night! He asked me if I would DJ since I still owned the sound
equipment from my keyboard days. I said sure so I pieced together
a
DJ system
and did the gig. I, and everyone else there had a blast even
though
I thought that I didn't know what I was doing. And they paid
me $150 to boot!
From that one night, more jobs came from the people
who attended and my
career was on it's way.
Since 1992, I have averaged over 90 parties per year and performed
at most
of the banquet properties in San Diego. I've also performed in
LA/Orange County,
Imperial County and Las
Vegas. A highlight was
being the DJ when the America3 syndicate brought
home the
America's Cup
in 1993.
I absolutely love what I do and sometimes
have to pinch myself
to make sure that I'm awake! People pay me to party. It's a tough
job
but someone's got to do it!
