Q: We have no experience hiring a DJ, Any advice on what to look for?
A: There are many great DJ's
out there. Referrals are probably the best place to start but even that isn't
perfect. What works for one person may not work for you. Best thing to
do is go with
your gut feeling. Do I feel comfortable with this person? Does he/she conduct
themselves in a professional manner? Does their personality match your
expectation of their performance at your party?
(i.e. do you want someone upbeat and energetic and your potential DJ is quiet
and reserved.) Price is not always an indication of what maybe best for you.
My advice, especially for wedding clients, is to meet your potential DJ's
in person and trust your judgment. The DJ is the foundation of the success
of any social function. Make sure that it's a strong one!
Q:
Does your fee include everything? Is there a deposit involved?
A: In the vast majority of cases, yes. You only pay for
the time I actually play music for. Equipment, music, set-up travel time
and a pre-reception meeting for wedding clients (Standard package only)
are
all part
of the fee. Extras include a second system for a wedding ceremony, disco
lighting and extra speakers for large venues. To book a date, I require
a 50% deposit. with the balance due on the day of
the
event.
Q:
Do you coordinate weddings?
A: Yes and No. In the absence of a professional coordinator,
I will help plan the itinerary beforehand (Standard package) and help
implement it
at the reception. I will communicate with your vendors and guests to help
ensure that everyone is ready for each event so the reception runs smoothly.
But I do not deal with the details of the room set up and decor, nor am
not prepared for any wedding day emergency. If you are into all of the
"bells & whistles" that can go into a typical wedding day,
then I suggest that
you hire a professional coordinator to help ensure peace of mind. Also,
check with your venue. Many require one and I would not meet their criteria
for a full-fledged coordinator.
Q:
May we choose songs and, if so, how many?
A: Of course! Your song choices help me in preparing for your event.
It's not necessary to choose a lot of music. Just give me some of your favorite
songs and artists -
20 songs
or so. It's my job to "read the crowd" and play the right songs
at the right time and we don't know exactly what your guests will dance to
until the party starts. It's a good idea to give
me leeway to choose songs that will appeal to everyone. But this is your
party and, when it's comes right down to it, I'll play whatever you want
within reason.
Thank you for making our wedding awesome! I've gotten so many compliments on you! I appreciated you bearing with all of my emails and questions during the planning and I can't even tell you how much I appreciated you dealing with our "wedding crashers" from that other wedding! You kept us from having to deal with it and allowed us to enjoy our day. You were a pleasure to work with and we will recommend you to all of our friends. – Liz and David |
